Tuan Mill
Officially opening in 1990, Tuan Mill is situated amongst the Tuan State Forest, roughly 25kms from Maryborough.
As Queensland’s largest timber mill, Tuan utilises world-class manufacturing technology to process approximately 70 truckloads of sustainably grown logs daily. In fact, the daily volume of structural framing produced by Tuan Mill would stretch from Hervey Bay to the Gold Coast.
Committed to sustainable practices, we ensure there is no wastage at the Tuan Mill. By-products from the log, such as bark, shavings and sawdust, are either used to fuel the mill’s heat plant, or goes on to become a myriad of industrial and household products.
Tumbarumba Mill
In 2001, Hyne Timber purchased the Tumbarumba Mill. Located on the western side of the Snowy Mountains in New South Wales, the Tumbarumba Mill marked Hyne’s single biggest investment and a conscious decision to move into the southern markets.
The Tumba Mill, as it’s affectionately known, processes ~620,000m3 of log a year, or the equivalent of ~22,200* timber framed homes. In fact, the daily volume of structural framing produced on-site would stretch from Tumbarumba to Melbourne.
Like our Tuan Mill, there is no wastage at Tumba. All by-products generated are either used as biofuel to heat the mill’s heat plant or sold on to customers, such as Visy.
GLT Facility
Established in 1978, Hyne Timber's Glue Laminated Timber (GLT) Plant was one of the first in Australia. Located in Maryborough Queensland, the plant employs approximately 50 people to manufacture responsibly sourced Australian softwood (LGL & Beam 15) and hardwood (Beam 21) GLT products.
In 2020, Hyne Timber’s GLT plant underwent a $20M expansion. The new plant features a high precision, fully automated CNC machine that performs cuts, joinery and profiles on GLT beams, as well as an automatic rotary press that can produce approximately four layers, each comprising multiple beam layups, every hour.
XLam Facility
In 2012, with no other cross laminated timber (CLT) competitors in Australia, the time was right for XLam to join the Hyne family and bring true mass engineered timber to an Australian market.
CLT panels are prefabricated, engineered timber that offers flexible design options for commercial construction. Lightweight yet very strong, with superior acoustic, fire, seismic, environmental and thermal performance, CLT is fast and easy to install, and generates almost no waste onsite. Panels produced at our XLam facility can measure up to 16m long and 3.4m wide making them ideal for single storey, mid-rise and high-rise applications.
XLam’s 16,000m2 automated manufacturing facility in Wodonga is the only one of its kind in Australasia and has the capacity to produce 60,000m3 of CLT each year.
