FAQs

What timber is used for framing?

The timber used in most Aussie builds is made from plantation pine. Pine’s a great choice because it grows tall, straight, and fast. It is the popular because it is versatile, lightweight, strong, and easy to work with. Hyne have built their mills close to resource rich, sustainably grown pine plantations.

What is the Australian Standard for timber framing?

The Australian Standards for timber framing is outlined in AS 1684 Residential Timber Framed Construction, also referred to as the Timber Framing Code. This is where you’ll find the guidelines for the design and installation of timber framing. The Standard is subject to on-going review and amendments, so be sure to stay up-to-date on the latest before working with the good stuff.

Is timber framing strong?

You betcha, timber’s been the go-to for centuries. At Hyne, we go to painstaking efforts to accurately grade our boards. 3D mapping, X-Ray scanning, Acoustic tests, bend tests, and full vision scanning ensures that each board is accurately graded for strength and ready to carry its load.
