What is PEFC?
The Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) is a global organisation that promotes sustainable forest management through certification of forest and timber products. The PEFC Chain of Custody certification provides a traceability system that ensures that the timber products come from sustainable sources and are tracked from the forest to the end consumer.
The importance of the PEFC Chain of Custody certification lies in its contribution to sustainable forest management practices. The certification provides a way to verify that the timber products come from sustainably managed forests, which promotes the conservation of forests and the protection of wildlife habitats.
Who is Responsible Wood?
In Australia, the PEFC National Governing Body is Responsible Wood. Responsible Wood maintains a scheme which incorporates certification for Sustainable Forest Management Standard (AS4708) and a Chain of Custody Standard (AS 4707).
