In 2014, Clint was involved in a life-altering incident while working on a family friend’s dairy farm. His foot got caught in a machine used to turn hay into feed for cattle. Despite multiple surgeries, his foot could not be saved and was eventually amputated. During his recovery, Clint turned to Para-triathlon and went on to become a world-class athlete — winning Bronze and Silver in 2018 & 2019 at the Para World Cup before transitioning to Para-cycling due to a shoulder injury,
Clint’s story served as a sobering reminder of how crucial it is to truly understand the machines we work with and the safety procedures that surround them. In his case, he later learned that an isolator switch located nearby could have prevented the accident — a detail he simply wasn’t aware of at the time. This lack of knowledge changed his life, and he now passionately shares his experience to raise awareness and help prevent others from making the same mistake.
His message to the team was powerful: don’t become complacent. Take the time to understand your Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), know your equipment inside and out, and speak up if something doesn’t feel right. He also highlighted how fatigue plays a major role in our decision-making and safety performance, urging everyone to listen to their bodies and take breaks when needed.
We’d like to sincerely thank Clint for his visit to site and inspiring our team with his story. His strength, resilience, and commitment to safety left a lasting impact on all of us. It’s a strong reminder that safety isn’t just a set of rules — it’s a mindset, and it starts with every one of us.
