Durability & Maintenance

Treatment preservatives can improve the durability of timber by acting to repel wood destroying insects (such as termites, white ants and borers) and breaking down fungi spores that lead to wood rot.

Durability & Maintenance

The durability and service life of timber products can be enhanced by impregnating the cells with stable preservatives. This process is commonly referred to as ‘treating’ and is a cost efficient and reliable method of improving the timber’s natural resistance to attack from insects and decay.

Installation

When installed in accordance with the requirements in our installation guides, our treated timber framing products can be used in conjunction with other building materials/systems to resist termite action and meet the performance requirements of the National Construction Code Building Code of Australia (BCA).

Unlike other termite systems such as barriers, meshes and chemical sprays, our framing products requires little to no attention post installation. We simply recommend you adopt a common-sense approach to maintaining your home and its surrounds. And with no annual inspections or maintenance required, Hyne’s Treated Timber Framing really is a hassle-free solution.

Maintenance

Where the exposed surface area of termite susceptible timber exceeds the cross-sectional area of the member concerned, then additional termite protection is required to achieve the performance requirements of the NCC relating to termite action. Where replacement of the affected timber member is not practical or possible then the following acceptable for protecting termite susceptible timber are required:

  • The installation of a termite barrier system
  • The in-situ preservative treatment of any termite susceptible timber

Where timber is cut, notched, drilled or rebated – the exposed areas must be resealed with a suitable treatment preservative product to ensure that an integral treatment envelope is maintained. These products contain insecticides, which with the correct application will provide termite protection top any exposed termite susceptible timber.
