A truly renewable building material
Hyne Timber has a long standing commitment to sustainability.
As far back as 1889, through his role as a Queensland Member of Parliament, our founder R.M. Hyne advocated for the replanting of forests and initiated the creation of Queensland's first Department of Forestry. His legacy remains, and in 2023 our sustainability agenda is stronger than ever.
All Hyne Timber products have full Chain of Custody certification.
A proud founding member of an industry-wide movement giving voice to Australian timber producers.
All our timber stock is sourced from PEFC certified sustainably managed Australian plantations.
At Hyne Timber, we only use logs that are responsibly sourced from Australian PEFC certified plantations and that carry a full Chain-of-Custody certification. So, for every pine tree that is harvested another is planted in its place, and as each tree grows it absorbs carbon from our atmosphere and locks it up, long-term. The amount of timber used in an average Aussie home is then regrown in Australian plantations every 150 seconds!

Builders doing measurable good
Builders who choose to work with timber are making a measurable contribution to tackling climate change. As a naturally renewable material, timber is playing an increasingly important role in carbon capture and storage. Whilst trees absorb carbon from the atmosphere, the manufacturing of timber is far less energy intensive than alternative materials. For these reasons we continue to ask the question — why build with anything else?
Timber vs Steel
Half the stored weight of dried timber is carbon, and the choice of wood or steel by a homeowner makes a big difference between starting with either a CO2 credit or deficit. Building a house with a timber frame offsets the emissions of five vehicles for a year. In contrast, building with a steel frame increases emissions equivalent to two cars for a year.
Together we can build a better world
Hyne Timber is a proud founding member of the Timber Framing Collective, an industry-wide movement giving voice to timber producers around Australia. Research shows that 80% of homeowners want an eco-friendly building material option, yet so often they're simply not offered the choice. Together, our goal is to educate builders and consumers alike to ask the right questions on behalf of mother nature.
